As mentioned, NTpage allows you to forward messages to an e-mail box. You may also want to route system errors to an e-mail account. This section describes how e-mail is implemented in NTpage. When NTpage has an E-mail to send, it simply tries to deliver it directly to an SMTP server via the SMTP protocol. The assumption here is that your server has a connection to the Internet or an Intranet. You define the SMTP server name in the Administrator set-up program. This entry would be exactly the same as the "Outgoing Mail" (SMTP) entry that you would put in an ordinary e-mail program such as Eudora or Microsoft Mail or Outlook. In short, if you can send some e-mail to someone from the NT Server, then you can forward mail from NTpage. The actual NTpage component used by the NTpage Server to send E-mail is called MAILIT32.DLL. Note: You may disable the E-mail interface in the NTpage Administrator. Note: To troubleshoot the MAILIT32.DLL program, see the NTpage Administrator program for setting up the E-Mail Log file. Error Handling There are numerous situations when NTpage Server gets itself in critical situations and need to communicate an error condition to someone. Since it runs as a service, there is no way to display an error on the screen. To communicate with technicians NTpage will send the message to a group. The NTpage Administrator program has a field named "Send Administrative Errors to Group". Define a group and select the group to be the error group. When NTpage has an error, it looks up the members of the error group and sends pages and/or e-mails as defined for the individual users of the group. |
